Getting rid of pests is our business and something we take pride in being able to do well with the best methods available on the market. But there are always people who think they know better. Here we take a look at some of the most common myths about pests and attempt to set the record straight.

Pest Myth #1. Clean Houses Don’t Have Pest Infestations

Wrong. Pests couldn’t care less about how spotless your home is. If it’s warm and dry then it’ll be on their list for a place to take shelter and breed.

Pest Myth #2. My Neighbour Has Had The Pest Controllers In, Now I’ll Get All His Pests

That’s not really how it works. Pesticides are designed to kill pests when they enter the home. They don’t ‘sense’ that there’s something nasty and run off next door.

Pest Myth #3. Electronic Pest Repellents Are Effective at Keeping Pests At Bay

If they did we’d be out of a job. Our advice is, don’t believe everything you read on the internet. There is no evidence that these devices actually work to deter pests by sending out ultra-high frequency sound waves as sellers suggest.

Pest Myth #4. The Best Bait For A Mousetrap is Cheese

Mice actually love sugar more than cheese, so a hunk of chocolate, dried fruit, biscuit or even cereal would do the trick of luring a mouse into a trap any day over cheese.

Pest Myth #5. My Cat Will Take Care Of Any Mice

Not always. Sometimes cats aren’t always interested in being pest controllers, especially if they’re getting on in years. Despite what cartoons depict, cats don’t always see the need to rid a home of mice. Mice can also evade capture by travelling in places the cat can’t reach.

Pest Myth #6. I Can’t See Any Pests, So I Don’t Have Any

This is not a wise assumption to make. Just because you can’t see an outbreak doesn’t mean to say one hasn’t invaded your home. Pests such as termites and mice can do a great deal of damage to a home’s structure and interior spaces before they’re detected. Regular inspections can offer peace of mind and pest prevention.
